Chicago Food Binge!We took a vacation trip to Chicago in October 2000, specifically to eat at Charlie Trotter's, widely regarded as the best restaurant in the country. Because it would be, well, crazy to go to Chicago for just one meal, we built a week-long trip around it. We kept the food theme, though; Rochelle put together a list of restaurants, and we made reservations for 14 meals, lunch and dinner every day we were going to be in Chicago. This was, we thought, less crazy. (If you haven't figured it out by now, we're totally obsessed with food.) Having never been to Chicago, we used the Chicago Reader and Zagat to research restaurants and decide which ones to go to. From the outset, Charlie Trotter's, Frontera Grill, and Arun's were the places on our "must" lists. After that, we took our master list of Chicago restaurants and wittled away until our vacation was booked full of what we believed to be a good representation of the Chicago eating scene. Hindsight being 20/20, there are a few "established" places that we would have removed from our list and replaced with some of the newer, more experimental restaurants, especially in Wicker Park. And in our wanderings around the city, we saw many intriguing joints, which we were just too full to try out. Aaaaah, so little time, so many restaurants. We documented our binge in Chicago for all to see, in near-realtime, posting additional photos every couple of days. We've organized the photos by day, and by restaurant (or other locale), and tried to include detailed notes about each dish. We had a great time eating in Chicago, and hope you'll find our photos and commentary amusing. Enjoy!
